A first aider is a person who carries out basic first aid measures in an emergency until professional help arrives. This includes securing the accident site, checking the condition of the injured person, dialing the emergency number and initiating immediate life-saving measures such as the recovery position or hemostasis. First aiders are often trained laypersons who can get involved at work or as witnesses to an accident in order to save lives and speed up recovery.
