Application
Below you can read about the typical areas of application of the system:
To reduce excessive touch voltage on the premises of Deutsche Bundesbahn AG, an existing PÜWE (potential monitoring device) or an EKS (Earthing short-circuiter) switches on at a voltage difference of > 50 V and briefly connects the network operator’s PEN system to the railroad earthing system, if appropriate switching devices are available. The temporary connection of the earthing systems of the network operator and the railroad reduces the total earthing resistance and thus the touch voltage. Fault rectification must be arranged. Before working within these systems, the PÜWE or the EKS must always be switched on.

Digital values
The following messages are generated by the WITT PÜWE and are available on potential-free contacts:
- Operation WITT PÜWE in normal operation, open
- Short circuit WITT PÜWE is closed
- Error PÜWE has carried out more than 5 switching operations per hour
- Overtemperature WITT PÜWE Internal temperature has reached the limit value, device is inactive
