WITT IMW 100 Isolation monitoring
monitors the insulation between return conductor and earth
Description
The IMW 100 measures the voltage between a structure and a reference electrode in the ground.
When the voltage breakdown fuse (SDS for short) is short-circuited, it recognises the condition where ‘return currents flow through the surrounding ground’.
In this state, the voltage between earth and the structure rises significantly, as part of the return current flows through the soil.
This state is then recognised again when the structure and the return conductor are short-circuited. Thus, any change attributable to an earth fault is reliably detected.
Insulation faults between the return conductor and the structure are automatically detected and reported. This measure, combined with the rectification of the fault, prevents corrosion damage caused by a continuous current flow.
