Using the portable measurement kit

The WITT EKS 1000 P portable test kit is used for functional testing of the switching behaviour of earthing short-circuiters and surge arresters.

Description

The portable test case consists of a robust, specialised hard-shell case. Opening the case lid provides access to the test sockets, the display and the controls.
The 230 VAC supply voltage is connected via the front panel (IT plug). In another version, power is supplied via a rechargeable battery. The battery’s charge level is indicated by LEDs on the front panel.

Function

The test set is connected to the earth terminals of the earth short-circuit device via the safety test sockets. The desired output voltage is set. Once the start button has been pressed, the test set outputs the set voltage and measures the time until a short circuit occurs at the test sockets. This time is then displayed. Once the Device Under Test has been switched on or tripped, the output voltage is switched off and the time measurement is paused.
If the Device Under Test has not switched after 300,000 ms (5 min), the output voltage is switched off.
If the unit is running on battery power, it switches off automatically after 5 minutes (the counter reading is retained). If the battery is under-voltage, the unit switches off (this does not apply when operating from the mains).
