WB-VLDM: permanent monitoring of SDS and HVL

Here you can find out more Vertriebsanfrage

The WB-VLDM continuously monitors voltage breakdown fuses (SDS) or hybrid voltage limiters (HVL) in accordance with DIN EN 50526-2, Class 1, 2.1 or 2.2. It detects breakdowns and switching operations in real time. Detected events and regular status updates can be reported via text message or email to up to ten recipients. No cloud connection required.

Various power sources are available for the ultra-low-power component (battery, auxiliary power supplies and traction current).

Description

Application of the WB-VLDM

The EN 50122 standard requires the continuous monitoring of voltage protection devices – with the WB-VLDM, you can replace rigid, labour-intensive periodic tests with automatic real-time monitoring. Instead of carrying out tests at fixed intervals, your maintenance team is notified immediately via text message or email should a breakdown or a fault actually occur on an SDS or HVL, and can then proceed directly to the affected installation. The flexible power supply – battery, solar or operation directly from the traction voltage up to 750 V DC – means the system can also be used at sites without a fixed mains supply.

Benefits for the business

  • Reduced staffing costs: automatic reporting instead of manual cycle checks.
  • Faster response: Immediate SMS/email notification in the event of a hit or a trade.
  • Compliance with standards: Meets the continuous monitoring requirement of EN 50122.
  • Location-independent: operates on battery power, solar power or directly from the traction voltage up to 750 V DC.

Function of the WB-VLDM

The WB-VLDM module uses a sensor to continuously measure the voltage and current at the junction between the two potentials, for example on the return conductor cable. An intelligent evaluation system reliably distinguishes between breakdown and normal operation of the passive VLD elements of type VLD-F or VLD-O (DIN EN 50526-2, Class 1, 2.1 or 2.2). Detected events, as well as regular status updates, are sent via the integrated antenna by text message or email to up to twelve recipients. Optionally, the device can extend the status to include protocols such as IEC 61850 or potential-free contacts. The module is mounted on a top-hat rail in the control cabinet; configuration can be carried out either via cyber-secure SMS or a configuration profile – on request, we can supply the device pre-configured at the factory.
